While 2007 Seemed to be the year of the AK, this year might end up being the year of the VD. Real Sword (RS) will be releasing this year an electric SVD, SVD(M) and SVDS

Official Site

Unlike previous AEG releases intended to be a SVD, this one will actually look like VD instead of an AK with VD furniture.

This is fantastic news for airsofters because it means that ingenuity is still alive and kicking the airsoft R&D departments somewhere. And SVD is used by former Eastern Block countries as well as some NATO countries and Non-aligned countries. This is a rifle that commands a lot of respect, and its about damn time a proper electric one was made.

The year of the AK was in 2007
The year of the VD seems to be 2008
What will next year bring? Maybe VSS? Maybe some Russian pistols?

Either way, this is good news for the airsoft community.

RS is not the only option for an electric SVD. CA has also released one this year.
http://www.gunnerairsoft.com/catalog/pr ... ts_id=1527
(For sale and ON SALE now!)

While my opinion on CA isn't high, especially on East Block weapons, it has its advantages over the RS one.

Here's a comparison from someone who's had both already:

Actually I own both CA and RS........and my final decision is give up the RS........now it`s sold to my friend.

You may wonder why I dont take RS:

(1) RS use its own gears and piston.......which makes me worried for their availiability.
(2) Receiver of my RS SVD(s) has a VERY rough surface!! The 2 RS I own have a lot of marks of hand filing......and most of them are un-even.......I never seen a SVD or Type 79 looks like that.
(3) the 2 of RS I own, all have their outer barrels bents to right........at begining I doubt its my vision error and not the guns, but I asked a lot of guys to check and they all agree the barrels are bent to right.........its not acceptable for me.......
(4) Front sight and Gas block are not in-line (offset).......
(5) Weight.

and why I take CA:
(1) 95% of its internal parts can be found in market.
(2) Cheaper.
(3) outer barreland receiver are threaded, its much easier to be centered. (RS use Inokatsu AK method for its outer barrel........quite difficult to centered for me.)
(4) Motor is placed horizontally. It means I have chance to put on my real steel furniture!!! (I have 2 sets of russian woods at home, and 2 more polymer sets coming in....hehehe)
(5) Light weight!!

here is whats bad on CA SVD:

(1) butt ugly furniture!!
(2) the scope rail is a bit wider than real stuff I think.........I can`t put my 1P21 on it, but POSP and PSO-1 are ok!!
(3) the plastic rear stock is a bit wide (the part that connect to the receiver, at the rear end of the scope rail !!) You may need to file it if you want to put on the scope.
(4) very loose front sight hood.
(5) very ugly rear sight leaf
(6) rear part of top cover looks weird for me..........
(7) tappet plate spring too weak, hi power user have to change it.

Just my personnal opinion......

Fung

So this just is turning out to be the year of the Vintovka Dragonova.

I'm hoping RS addressing its SVD issues before it releases its SDVS.

Even more options have come into play as 2009 moved in.
The Classic army SVD.
AEG base. Black plastic furnature is a downfall, but it is cheaper than the RS, look forward to see what comes out of this gun.

Also the A&K electric AEG is on it's way. have not seen it in the US yet.
Also the chinese Atoz clone is on it's way. any links out there?

CA SVD.

I find it intresting out of AirsoftGI,Evike and other big sellers Hotspot got it and they are just mainly used by East coasters. Uses an intresting Hopup.

I like it but i want an RS SVD :<

The spartan imports video has this chick with cleavage doing a demo with it, its as long as she is. But she shows that the hop can be adjusted from the inside. Looks like a G3 style hop. Much better than the AtoZ/KA style one that you have to remove the dust cover and I think pull back the bolt to get to with a hex key. And she says that its a 40rd mag. Sounds better than the RS one that has as many as my CA AK47 magazine.

Truly a glorious year for the SVD enthusiast. Besides all these new options for spring and electric SVDs, now there is a source for the super elusive SVD bipod. Allegedly this is a copy of the civilian/Tiger version, but to me it looks as real as the few I saw on army SVDs.
