This game is what set the standard for all Ops to follow. This is the game that convinced me airsoft was the sport for me. And Scooty didn't even want to go to this one. I had to convince him.
This was MAP's 2nd season. The story was a continuation of the Opfor vs. Secfor rivalry/war. In the previous season's series Opfor left Africa, and they settled in a Post-Soviet Republic of Emminemizstan. And made a power play and took over. But they didn't succed. There was an insurgency by WANCER and WEIRDO. Also, Secfor was hot on the heels of Opfor, even though I'm pretty sure they were the ones that were defeated. In the beginning of the 2nd season, the WANCERs and WEIRDOs were but a nuisance, but they have become more than that.
WANCERs were a collection of bastards. Ready to sell out their country so long as they got to make a profit and a killing. Complete sell outs, whores!
WIERDOs were an ensemble of mercenaries consisting of former Green Berets, SAS, Spetsnaz and other elite ward dogs, hired by the Emminemizstan government in exile.
These two groups were essentially free agents. They could team up with Secfor and Opfor as it seemed necessary. But they were mortal enemies of each other.
The former leader of the WIERDO group was MIA that day, so TriChrome had taken the lead that day (and for the rest of the series). This is the group I ended up in. Although I originally wanted to be on Opfor (which Scooty ended up on) but I didn't think I'd have my Woodland(ish) uniform in time. I was wrong, it did arrive the day before the game, and I didn't feel like switching really since it was my Flora and not a proper Woodland, and I was already in the mind set of being a former Spetsnaz now Merc fighting for an exiled government.
After Monty's briefing we gathered and got ready to be shipped out. Climbed ontop of the pickup truck. And then were told to get off. Apparently the 'helicopter' was only for Opfor. So we footed our way to our respawn. Got lost trying to find it like twice. We managed to achieve a couple of TOTs (Time on Targets) with little to no resistance.
We actually first ran into Opfor at one of our TOTs. First, there was some shooting across the river. The TOT was a bridge, that I believe Opfor was supposed to blow up. Then a ceasefire was called (and TriChrome was instructing me and the others to open up on them as soon as they are with in range, even though he was talking peace to them). For some reason I remember this happening twice in almost the same place. Once on our side of the river, and again across the river. I really didn't want to engage them, Scooty was amongst them, and might have been the first person I hit that day. Eventually some sense came out of all this. No trickery went on, instead a mutually beneficial compromise. We held the TOTs together, they did what they needed to do after we got our points. Moved back toward our staging area and held another TOT and just hang out with one of the Opfor platoons. A bunch of undisciplined guys there. Spent their time trying to hunt frogs with their guns.
After that TOT was achieved I believe we might have split up, or maybe this next section happened before we even ran into Opfor. At one point we made our way back towards the clearing, and took positions near the rear fort. It was held by WANCERs. We had a fire fight. Took some casualties, and TriChrome called for our withdrawal. Maybe we went and ran into Opfor after this, because I know that the other offensive we did also involved us teaming up with Opfor.
We creeped along the ridge of the woods and the clearing. Moved forward closest to the barn and the coops. And then we made a combined assault and took the place. I know for sure I killed one guy (who didn't bother bleeding out). Any other kills that day are purely theoretical. This was when I was using my TM AK47, which has fucked up iron sights, and before I got my red dot. So there was much spraying and praying (though, in bursts). But that one guy I most certainly got! That earlier shooting of Scooty might have been another dude who was hidden off in another corner. We had managed to liberate some necessary supplies and took a prisoner, so we made our way back to our base to deposit our goods. We also got on the radio and arranged for a prisoner exchange. Which I think we did across the river. And we might have exchanged him for resources. We went back to our respawn and hydrated and reloaded. Thats when the shit started to hit the fan. We were engaged with someone at about 150' away across the river, and Scooty kept telling us that he had more resources for us if we could just send men to claim it. Trichrome was just not listening to me, and was on the radio talking with someone else. By the time he had decided to listen to me, it was too late. Opfor lost control of that position and the resources were no longer ours for the taking. And then Opfor was coming down towards us from that previous location. We knew they were going for that TOT. No doubt have switched allegiances for WANCERs. Trichrome was cautious. He was right to be. A fire fight erupted. Then negotiations began. But that was another trap! The firefight was on again. And in the lull, Opfor managed to surround us. They over ran us, and our respawn. And soon after that, the game was called.
So I didn't get many kills. At least 1. That kind of sucked. But I still felt like I played a key role in a larger story. I was part of a secondary faction, but we were deeply involved with the primary factions. Our leaders acted out their character roles. I was frustrated with Trichrome's decisions. Such as avoiding certain missions and wanting to betray factions before trying to pursue cooperation with them. I felt bad having to shoot at Scooty. And I hated that he was fucking ignoring me. But there was more good going on than bad. There were times when there was lots of action. And times when it was boring, but the tension was still there. It was everything I had hoped for. All the hype reading the story and stuff leading up to it was worth it. There have been very few games since that have lived up to the standard that this game has set for me.
DRK was at this game (he was a WANCER). He can fill in any holes I might have left. Or any mistakes I made. I think Risky might have taken part in this one as well.
